Bandits
For those of you who are’nt in the know yet, what is being claimed as, the worlds biggest bank robbery took place on wednesday. For more information you can read about it here.
Now I have been watching the events unfold and I have found it rather comical. The police and the media are claiming that the gang must have spent hours planning this raid. I beg to differ. I can be the first to reveal the true identity of the gang - Joe Blake and Terry Lee Collins.
What I am getting at is how close is this robbery to those in Bandits?
For those of you who havent seen the film, it is based around two criminals who escape from prison. They need money so decide to rob banks. The approach they take is to go to the bank managers home the night before and hold them and their family hostage, for this they get the nick-name The Sleepover Bandits. Then they go to work with the manager in the morning and rob the bank before it is open to the public. There is also a reward offered in the film…
How familiar is that to what is going on? My thought though is that there was an hour from when the robbery took place to when the police were alerted. The robery took place in Kent. They would have been accross the channel, and probably on a boat from spain to Brazil by now.
I can see it now, next month there will be a proposal in the House of Commons next month stating that any film going on general release in the UK will have to be vetted by the police for possible criminal inspiration.
