Friday

Well the weekend is here. I have to say not a moment too soon.

I dont want to be another one of these blogs that is moaning about the terror attacks that have gone on in London, but I want to pass on my best wishes to anyone caught up in the events that unfurled yesterday. Fortunately no-one I know got injured, although Mikey was on one of the trainlines that was hit by the bombs.

On a lighter note, I got me a new monitor yesterday. A nice 19 inch TFT. It is really nice having a large monitor again after having my previous 14 inch TFT for 4 years. I am pleased.

Also, I have discovered Google maps and the fact that you can create content on your own sites with them. I have had an idea to create a canterbury pub crawl generator. Watch this space.

2012

I have to say that I am pleased that we have the Olympics. I am, however, reserving judgement until I see it.

The work is set to start by the end of next week. Ken Livingstone has said that if the work follows the timeline laid out that we will have a year after all work is completed before the Olympics start. He also added that he doubted we would have that much time after completion as he expected it to overrun.

All I am worried about is that the last 2 big Government projects in London - the Millenium Dome, and the Still to be completed Wembly Stadium - have both overrun on their deadlines and cost far more to build than expected. Also, how much of a headache has the Dome been since it was left, costing millions just to keep it empty.

One thing that shocked me was talk of dismantling the stadia after the games and taking them to other parts of the country to be used. Bit extreme dont you think.

The games are not going to be until 2012, I will be about to turn 29, I just can’t muster up any kind of excitement yet.

Congratulations to all involved, it will be great. Just dont mess it up.

Irony

Today the Southern Water companies are lobbying to try and get a hosepipe ban in the southeast as the main reservoir in this are is half empty (they must be pessimists).

Anyway, how ironic is it that today of all days we have had nothing but rain, and thunderstorms as we speak.

Just a thought.
